On April 2nd, 2023, Boğaziçi University’s Electrotechnology Club and IEEE Student Branch organized a panel discussion as part of the Leading Women in Science and Technology Summit. The panel, which was moderated by Emel Sokullu, faculty of Koç University’s School of Medicine, focused on women’s contributions to the fields of engineering, science, and senior management. The panel also discussed the challenges women face in academia and the value of their work in the rapidly advancing field of technology.

Other panelists included Assoc. Dr. Zeynep Aslıhan Durer from Acıbadem University, Prof. Dr. Itır Erhart from Bilgi University, Assoc. Dr. Damla Eroğlu from Boğaziçi University, Assoc. Dr. Bilge Güvenç Tuna from Yeditepe University, and Prof. Dr. Hilal Demir Kivrak from Eskişehir Osmangazi University. They explored important questions regarding the role of women in academia, gender-based prejudices, and the contribution of women to technological advancements.

This discussion was part of the 9th Leading Women in Science and Technology Summit, which took place on April 1-2, 2023, at Albert Long Hall. The summit aimed to inspire and empower women by showcasing their achievements and potential in the business world.

The panel discussion was held in memory of the late Cemre Uçaryılmaz, a distinguished alumna of Boğaziçi University who had an impressive research career in the field of cancer treatments. Despite her untimely passing due to cancer in 2022, her valuable contributions to the field were remembered and celebrated during the panel. This tribute to Cemre Uçaryılmaz was a poignant and meaningful experience for both the participants and the audience, honoring her inspiring life and scientific endeavors in cancer research.
